Situated upon the top of Stepney Bank in the Ouseburn Valley, at the heart of music and culture in the Tyne and Wear area, Blank Studios is just a short walk from Newcastle town centre.
The main live room is comprised of cork and brick walls, a solid oak floor and an acoustically engineered cieling poviding a warm and rounded ambient space, ideal for achieving the rich tones and textures that are inherent in the recordings made here.
We also have the option of recording in our acoustically deadened booth. The control room has been carefully tuned to facilitate critical listening and is connected to the live room via a video link. A kitchen, bathroom, shower and lounge area complete with a Sega Mega Drive (possibly our greatest attribute!) provide a well catered and relaxed environment allowing musicians to enjoy any spare time spent here whilst not recording.
In terms of gear, Blank Studios run a Mac/Logic based setup with Class A Universal Audio, LA Audio, Focusrite and Presonus pre amps, Focal monitors as the main system and KRK monitors as a B system, and a Mackie control system. We've a range of outboard from Drawmer to Audient and use microphones by Rhode, AKG, Sure, DPA, Neuman and Senheiser. We have a choice of in house drum kits; a Yamaha Stage Custom, a vintage metal shelled Gretsch and a vintage Premier kit. We can also provide a full selection of backline and effects by Mesa, Marshall, Gallen + Kruger, WEM, Fender and Tech21 amongst others... a piano, and a range of percussion including ranged congas.
Let's not get carried away though, we at Blank believe that the real charachter and quality that can be evoked from a recorded piece of music, comes primarily from synergy and understanding between the artist and engineer, and the engineers careful application of knowledge and artistic judgement. Having worked with music at every level from amateur through to top flight recordings for international labels, we believe that it is our unique team of engineers that sets us apart as the studio of choice in Newcastle.

Hutton Magna (Saint Mary's, Wycliffe)
Located in the rolling hills of North Yorkshire, 10 minutes from Scotch Corner, Hutton Magna is one of our favourite locations to record at.
Due to its great isolation and cumfortable living arrangements much of our large scale work is well suited to this victorian built retreat.
With a live room space of approximately 2,000sq/ft, complete with thick parquet flooring, 1/2 pannelled 1/2 plastered walls and a wooden ceiling this space provides a wonderfully musical reverb.
A camping barn provides sleeping arrangements for up to 14 and your stay here can be full-board if you would like to dedicate your whole time to the recording.
All bookings must be made a suitable time in advance of the proposed dates and prices are subject to variables including season, the number of people involved, the length of the stay, and whether you or your label would like your time here to be with full-board accommodation.
